Google Reader: Bye bye Bloglines

Let me start by saying thank you to Bloglines – their service rocks and has reliably been my sole RSS reader for months now.

Last week I switched to Google Reader. I tried Google before and didn’t like it, but they updated the service a short time ago, and now it really rocks.

Here’s the reasons that made me switch:

  • Google. This means my Google Office package just got a bit better again. And it’s single sign-on with all my other Google services.
  • The interface is nice. Not a lot better than bloglines, but blends in with my GMail experience.
  • Single feeds also display read items. This is a lot better than having to update x days manually in bloglines.

My only gripe is that I need to manually mark stuff as read, if I don’t scroll past all new items (which leaves some unread now and then). When I click on a blog title manually in bloglines, all posts are marked as read. Maybe they’ll add this as an option later on.

  1. I tried the new Reader when it came out a few days ago but went back to bloglines. Now I’ve started using Reader again and am sticking with it. I like being able to star items.
