What happened to Jonathan Ive?

Lots of bloggers are wondering what happened to Apple’s famous designer Jonathan Ive:

“Speaking of Ive… did anyone else notice he was conspicuously absent from the Keynote? For the past few Macworld Expos he’s been pratically sitting on Steve’s lap but this time I don’t even recall his name being muttered.”

Can anyone shed a light on this?

  1. Well, he designed the iMac G5 as well – so he is still a major player at Apple. I believe he is Apple’s VP of Industrial Design.

I suspect he had a hand in designing the iPod Shuffle and the Mac Mini as well.

  3. Ive wasn’t (as far as i know) responsible for Apple stopping the production of the 15″ iMacG4 w/ the Superdrive… The only reason my mom didn’t buy a Mac last yr. She wanted the 15″ LCD but also wanted the Superdrive, which by the time she had decided to upgrade her Bondi iMac, was no longer available.

I know at least 5 other people that wanted the more afordable 15″ iMac w/ a Superdrive, and put off purchases because what they wanted was no longer available. One has ordered a mini, the others are on the fence on the iMac G5… One of those will prob. end up buying an iBook.

It’s like shopping for cars.. hard to find what I want w/ a manual 5 or 6 speed, and I’d rather be dead than drive a car w/ an automatic… So here I sit cash at hand waiting for the car I want to become available.

What I’m trying to say is that you don’t blame a car designer for GM making the production GTO a piece of crap, compared to the designers (teams) concept car that had people excited.

    Shrug.

  5. Above,

So, you’re one of the twits I sit behind on the highway WAITING for you to ‘shift’ your a$$ in gear!

Let’s see. Be at home – doing anything, or watch some wanker polish his gearshift on the highway. Tough call! ;-)
