Personalized feeds

Wolf is looking for more feeds, personalized for him by his bank or credit card company.

That’s not a bad idea at all, but it has some requisites:

  • The feed should be able to authenticate me. As there is likely to be more than one feed, differing in the amount of information it needs from me, some kind of federated identity (like the Liberty Alliance proposes) would be nice. Authentication could be beneficial to many other applications in the blogosphere as well.
  • Encryption. I have not yet looked into this – is it possible to use SSL for feeds in todays readers?
  • As this is likely to be business critical stuff, a kind of acknowledgement mechanism (“yes, I have read this”) would be nice

RSS used in such a context would totally rock. Anybody want to prototype this?

  1. You can use SSL and HTTP Authentication in today’s news readers. Well, NetNewsWire, at least :-)

Acknowledgment is easy to bolt on if explicit user action is acceptable. If it isn’t, then the feed generator would probably need to be dynamic. But, if the feed is personalized, it’s probably dynamic anyway…
