Jeff Sandquist: I want DRM

(Found via Scoble:) Jeff Sandquist (nice readable permalinks, btw.) says now that his iPod broke he wants a device that does DRM in order to be able to make sure the artists get their share.

Apart from the obvious (iPods do support DRM, you can buy songs legally without the need for DRM) I’m disappointed that it’s once again time for “if you can’t win, confuse them”. There are many reasons why you may prefer a different device to the iPod, but naming DRM is just pathetic.

Most likely going the way of the big music companies is probably the worst way to make sure the artists do get their fair share – it’s more like supporting the rip-off.

Maybe how I explained why I want a different device over the iPod was pathetic. :-)

The reason I don’t want to use an iPod is I want a service that enables me to get music via a monthly subscription of $14.99 per month as opposed to 99 cents per song.

The Windows Media Devices enable that, iPods don’t.

That’s all. Sorry for the confusion.
