Who’s copying who

Yesterday, I had a good laugh at Apple’s WWDC banners accusing Microsoft of stealing Apple’s ideas.

But one day after WWDC, this isn’t so funny anymore. Actually it looks like Apple’s the one doing the copying. It started with Watson, now they have a new OS feature in MacOS X v10.4 Tiger called “Dashboard“. This looks eerily similar to Konfabulator. So similar, that that similarity is the talk of the web today: Russ is mad about it, MacMinute has the story, the author himself claims they’re copying, and vowe covers it as well.

Steve, maybe you should have a talk with the original developer. That’s a bad signal for independent developers, on which you rely heavily. That’s not how we want Apple to be. It’s bad enough that there’s this other company who acts like thieves.
