It’s the protocols, stupid!

(Via DJ Adams:) DJ reports on Tim O’Reilly’s talk at FOSDEM:

“Interoperability and open data formats may be more important than source code availability”

That’s something I have said before, and it’s becoming more obvious every day. The availability of source code does not make people jump on a product, but a solid open protocol is much more interesting. I see that happening with RSS, and even the Liberty Alliance Project seems to attract the big ones.
