in Payment

Inside ID Conference

Interesting article on patrickWeb on the need for authentication in payments. I agree with his findings that 3D Secure would be great, but will probably fail because of the enrollment process needed to take part. I would like to see the handheld devices he mentions succeed, as they solve the problem SmartCards usually have: the need for a PC and a card reader. Unfortunately, they’re not yet on the horizon for deployment, and I fear that they will suffer from the same problem similar solutions have had: you may need a different card and a different reader for multiple services. But maybe I’m wrong, and parties can agree on standards after all?
