Palm OS 5.2.1 Second Edition

The release of the new Palm PDAs Tungsten T3 und Tungsten E has been covered by just about everybody, so I’ll spare you the repetition. What has not been covered in that much detail are the changes that Palm has made to the OS of the new devices: the version stays at 5.2.1, but there are lots of new features:

  • Address Book has been renamed “Contacts” to match its Outlook sibling. New fields have been added for multiple (up to three) addresses, birthday and 9 user definable fields.
  • The calendar now has something similar to a “Today” screen.
  • More minor changes (read about them in Julie’s review)
  • Hotsync now comes with its own Outlook conduit – no more PocketMirror – to match the new fields in Contacts.

All in all, not too shabby. Especially the new address fields have been missing far too long, if you ask me. Most people do use Outlook, and even those who don’t won’t use two contacts for the same person just to store the business address. This has also always been a sync issue, with PocketMirror not being able to sync changes in the second address back to Outlook.
Now make this PalmOS update available for the older Tungsten’s, too, and I’m a happy camper.
