Financial transactions, RSS and OFX

Recently there has been much discussion about using RSS for things other than blog summaries, and people have asked about using it for providing financial information.  It turns out there is already an
XML-based format for doing this, called OFX…
[Critical Section]
I’ve been thinking about that for a while, too. That would be a real killer use – an XML based format for financial information – wow! The problem is (I can only talk for germany here): the banks have been fighting about similar formats for about ten years now, all political power games, the private banks won’t support a format that’s been proposed by savings banks, and so on. The discussion has *never* been about technology here. A pity.
