  1. I had a dream just when I woke up this morning on the question you guys had, I had a dream the U.S. did shut down the internet for reasons of threats, and in my dream it was all over the news the U.S. was shutting the internet down. It was a pretty weird dream I never thought it was actually a possibilty

  4. The US controls 10 of 13 Internet root DNS servers (within its geographic borders). One is in the UK. One is in Tokyo. The last is in Sweden.

I suspect if there were a situation where the US govt felt it had a clear need to “shut down” the internet (though I have no idea what that situation might be), then they could (in theory) through emergency legislation or executive order pull the plug on their 10 root servers, plus convince the Brits to do likewise. Whether Japan or Sweden would agree to take the servers in their countries offline is anyone’s guess. But they could shut down at least 11 of 13 if they really had a need to.

  7. I’m really not sure if they could “pull the plug” on the internet. Well it is cyberspace and if it ever became “aware,” meaning to be able to think for itself,I mean, it could kill us all. Maybe it would launch nukes from the military all over the world and that would really be the end. I don’t like it. The internet is good and all but those possibilities make me want to end it right now. Don’t yu agree? This is gonna be my latest project, to shut the net down. It might not be possible with some severe sabotage on my part. When Hell busts wide open that’s judgement day, not death by our own weapons that were our defence against…ourselves? I will end the net and I don’t care wether it’s gonna be done in the past or the future; it has to be done or all weapons change to only make machinery useless. Ugh! I hate it this is impossible, but a new purpose for me another reason to live.
