Sony Ericsson P800 survives the hype

flattr this!

The Register has a nice hands on review of the S/// P800, which is still on my Technolust-List. Excerpt from the review: “The P800 comfortably gets through the day, and the only time I felt obliged to turn it off was on the TGV train from Marseilles to Paris last week. At 200 mph, it was noticeably draining the battery as the phone tried to keep track of which cell it should be in. That shouldn’t trouble Americans, however, as trains simply don’t go that fast here, given the country’s preference for Stealth bombers.”

Mobile Payment Kickstart

flattr this!

Matthew blogs about the start of a cross-operator mobile payment scheme before I get to do it (The Register and FT also have the story). Having worked on the infrastructure for that system for the last three years, I’m surprised that it took so long to take off. Although there will be criticism, this is the only mPayment scheme that has the slightest chance to take off. Why? It manages to do what others, like the very smart paybox scheme, have failed to do: it combines the power of the mobile operators (after all it is them who have the customers and the power to sell a service) *and* the world’s largest experience with merchant integration and acquisition (the company behind Encorus is First Data).
