iPhone activation process

Welcome back!

The iPhone needs to be activated before it can be used. It seems that in this process, the phone is being locked to the specific AT&T SIM card. Locking phones to a SIM is not unusual here in germany (at least for prepaid cards).

What is unusual, however, is that it seems to happen through the activation process – usually this happens before you open the box. It can’t be long until someone tries to find out exactly what happens during that process…
