I finally gave in and bought a Wii last week. The tipping point was when I tried one in the local mall in the “Wii experience days” (Message to Nintendo: that concept works!). I played Wii Tennis and Bowling and was hooked instantly.
I never thought I’d do that – for starters, my wife isn’t into gaming, hence I thought putting a game console into the living room was doomed from the beginning. Boy was I wrong…
I bought the Wii Sports bundle, plus a second set of controllers. It caught on with my wife and the two kids instantly, and everyone visiting us now has to play. My wife hasn’t quite groked how to play tennis without beating the other player over the head with the controller yet, but that’s the price they have to pay.
In a nutshell, the Wii is a huge success in our house. My only gripe is that I’ll be at 7 controllers soon (two pairs of Wii remotes + nunchuks, a classic controller to play NES games, and two GammeCube controllers to play FIFA 07 (which lacks a Wii version).
